It reminds me that my work is full of paradox. I'm getting to enjoy it. Though I find transformation from one state to another is almost always painful, the end result means a lot in different ways to those around me. Your squirrel is driven by necessity. We, as artists, are too. That doesn't make it a "nice" experience, but that's just the way it is. And I wonder how these little old ladies would react to being told that their faith and rituals are both a paradox and a necessity? What a beautifully observed piece of writing.
